SINUSITIS AND HOMEOPATHY:

Sinus problems and sinus-related symptoms are common reasons people see their doctors. Symptoms include pain in the forehead or between the eyes, toothache, feeling of fullness in the mid-face, stuffy nose, and congestion.

What is sinusitis?

Sinusitis is the inflammation of the tissues or the membranes lining the sinuses. This inflammation causes the sinuses to fill up with fluid or waste matter or mucous and there is no space for air, which is normally present in the sinuses.

symptoms of sinusitis:

Sinusitis often starts as a cold, which then turns into a bacterial infection. Allergies, pollutants, nasal problems and certain diseases may also cause sinusitis.
PAIN: More important symptom of sinusitis
Pain is the most common symptom of sinusitis. You have several different sinuses above and below your eyes as well as behind your nose. Any of these can hurt when you have a sinus infection.

Sinus discharge:

When you have a sinus infection, you may need to blow your nose often because of a greenish-yellow discharge. The discharge may also bypass your nose and flow down your throat. You may feel a tickle or an itch down the back of your throat. This is called postnasal drip.

Congestion:

Your inflamed sinuses may also restrict how well you can breathe through your nose.

Headache:

The relentless pressure and swelling in your sinuses can give you symptoms of a headache.

Cough

As the discharge from your sinuses drains down the back of your throat, it can cause irritation, especially over a long period of time

Sore throat

Postnasal drip can leave you with a raw and aching throat. Although it may start as an annoying tickle, it can get worse.
Treatment:
The other system of medicine they usual treatment of sinusitis is to give nasal sprays and inhalation of steam. Antibiotics are usually abused in the treatment of  sinusitis. In some cases they help but that is more likely in the case of acute sinusitis. Regular use of antibiotics does not help. After that Endoscopic surgery may be done to remove small amounts of bone or other material blocking the sinus openings or to remove growths (polyps). Normally, a thin, lighted tool called an endoscope is inserted through the nose so the doctor can see and remove whatever is blocking the sinuses.
Homeopathic treatment: Homeopathy offers freedom from Sinusitis.
Pulsatilla:
The head pain is worse when lying down and in a warm room and is better in cool air for children who need this medicine.
This patient often feels better in open air and is aggravated in a closed place like a room or a crowded place. Tolerating heat and the summer weather is difficult for the patient. The mental symptom of crying at the slightest reason is a predominant guiding feature of this homeopathic remedy. The discharge from the nose is often greenish or yellowish green. The patient feels thirstless and hardly feels like drinking water. There is a pain in the head which is better by lying down or bending the head tightly. The right nostril feels stopped, more so in the evening and there is heaviness or pressing pain at the root of the nose. The sensation of smell is often lost. The nasal discharge is often thick and yellow or green.
Hydrastis –
This is one of the most effective Homeopathic medicines for the treatment of chronic as well as acute sinusitis. The discharge may be thin and watery as happens in acute sinusitis or thick, yellowish and tenacious when the sinusitis is chronic in nature. There may be a bad odor from the nose. There is persistent postnasal discharge, which is again thick and yellowish in color. There may be a dull pain in the frontal region. The patient feels like blowing his nose all the time as the nose seems blocked. At times, the patient feels a sense of tickling in the nose, as that of a hair. It causes a lot of weakness in the patient and is therefore quite well suited to tired, weak and lethargic patients.
KALI BIC:-
The distinguishing feature of children with sinusitis who need this medicine is that they have a thick, stringy nasal discharge. They have extreme pain at the root of the nose that is better by applying pressure there. The bones and scalp feel sore. Dizziness and nausea when rising from sitting and the severe pain may lead to dimmed vision. The pains are worse by cold, light, noise, walking, stooping, and in the morning (especially on waking or at 9 am) or at night. They prefer to lie down in a darkened room and feel better by warmth, warm drinks, or overeating. There may be a bad smell in the nose. Violent sneezing may be present.
Hepar Sulphur-
It is an excellent homeopathic medicine to stop the sensitivity of the patient to cold temperature and cold weather. The slightest exposure to cold in any form tends to bring on the symptoms of sneezing and running nose. The nose may get blocked up on slightest exposure to cold air or cold temperature. A cough starts on the slightest exposure. The patient is physically as well as mentally sensitive. Pus-like discharge from the nose may be present. A smell like old cheese may persist in the nose. The discharge is watery in the case of acute sinusitis while it is thick and greenish in the case of chronic sinusitis.
Spigella: -
Children who develop sinusitis with a sharp pain that is worse on the left side may need this medicine. They tend to get sinusitis after exposure to cold or cold, wet weather.
