Common causes of headaches treatment form Homeopathy

Common causes of headaches treatment form Homeopathy

A headache is the symptoms of pain anywhere in the region of the head and neck. It occurs in migraines, tension-type headaches, and cluster headaches. Frequent headaches can affect relationship and employment. There is also an increased risk of depression in those with severe headaches.

The term headaches need no introduction. Rarely one comes across a patient who claims that he never had headaches. It is one of the most common complaints and according to some studies ranks ninth among the causes of a patient visiting a physician.

Pain is body's most common way of expressing that something is wrong with the health. A wide variety of factors ranging from simple ones like hunger or tension to very complicated ones like brain tumors can cause headaches. Headaches can be such severe intensity that they may incapacitate the patient yet may not be life threating like a migraine but on the other hand, very mild headaches may be from life-threatening causes like a brain tumor. Therefore every a headache should be carefully looked into and proper medical advice is sought. Proper medical advice sought on headache.

Classification of headaches:

In 2013, the international headaches society released its latest classification system for a headache, because so many people suffer from headaches, and because treatment is difficult sometimes, it was hoped that the new classification system would help health-care professionals make a more specific diagnosis as to the type of headaches a patient has, and allow better and ,more effective options for treatment. The diagnosis is extensive and the headaches society recommends that healthcare professionals consult the guidelines frequently to make certain of the diagnosis. there are three major categories of a headache based on the source of the pain.

1. Primary headaches

2. Secondary headaches

3. Cranial neuralgias, facial pain, and other headaches.

The guidelines also note that a patient may have symptoms that are consistent with more than one type of a headache and that more than one type of a headache may be present at the same time.

1. Primary headaches:

Primary headaches include a migraine, tension, and cluster headaches, as well as a variety of other less common types of a headache.

Tension headaches are the most common type of a primary headache, tension headaches occur more commonly among women than men. According to the world health organization, 1 in 20 people in the developed world suffers from a daily tension headache.

Migraine headaches are the second most common type of a primary headache. Migraine headaches affect children as well as adults. Before puberty, boys and girls are affected equally by migraine headaches, but after puberty, more women than men are affected.

Cluster headaches are a rare type primary headache. It more commonly affects men in their late 20s though women and children can also suffer from this type of a headache. Primary headaches can affect the quality of life. Some people have occasional headaches that resolve quickly while others are debilitating. While these headaches are not life-threatening, may be associated with symptoms that can mimic strokes.

2. Secondary headaches:

Secondary headaches are those that are due to an underlying structural or infectious problem in the head or neck. This is a very broad group of medical conditions ranging from dental pain from infected teeth or pain from an infected sinus to life-threatening conditions like bleeding in the brain or infections like encephalitis or Meningitis.

Traumatic headaches fall into this category including post-concussion headaches. This group of headaches also include those headaches associated with substance abuse and excessive use of medications used to treat headaches (medication overuse headaches). Hangover headaches fall into this category as well. People who drink too much alcohol may waken with a well- established headache due to the effects of alcohol and dehydration.

3. Cranial neuralgias, facial pain, and other headaches:

Neuralgia means nerve pain. Cranial neuralgia describes inflammation of one of the 12 cranial nerves coming from the brain that control the muscles and carry sensory singles to and from the head and neck. Perhaps the most commonly recognized example is trigeminal neuralgia, which affects cranial nerve V(the trigeminal nerve), the sensory nerve that supplies the face and can cause intense facial pain when irritated or inflamed.

Types of Headaches:

There is 17 type of headaches depend upon the class to which they belong, some common types include:

1. Primary tension headaches that are episodic.

2. Primary tension headaches that are chronic.

3. Primary muscle contraction headaches.

4. Primary migraine headaches with aura.

5. Primary migraine headaches without aura.

6. Primary cluster headache.

7. Primary paroxysmal hemicrania(a type of a cluster headache).

8. A primary cough headache.

9. Primary stabbing headache.

10. A primary headache associated with sexual intercourse.

11. Primary thunderclap headache.

12. A hypnic headache(headaches that awaken a person from sleep).

13. Hemicrania continua(headaches that are persistently on one side only right or left).

14. New daily- persistent headache (NDPH)(a type of a chronic headache).

15. A headache from exertion.

16. Trigeminal neuralgia and other cranial nerve inflammation.

17. Secondary headaches due to:

. Trauma
. Disorders
. Infection
. Structural problems with the bones of the face, teeth, eyes, ears, nose, sinuses or other or withdrawal.
. Substance abuse or withdrawal.

Causes of headaches:

A migraine headache is caused by inflammation or irritation of structures that surround the brain or affect its function. While the brain itself has no pain nerve fibers, everything else above the shoulders, from the neck, skull, and face, can cause a person to have of head pain, systemic illness including infection or dehydration can have an associated headache. These are known as a toxic headache. Changes in circulation and blood flow or trauma can also cause a headache. Changes in brain chemistry may also be associated with a headache, medication reactions, drug abuse and drug withdrawal can all cause pain. Every person is different so the history of a headache is important. Recognizing patterns or precipitating (foods are eaten, stress etc) factors, in combination with the physical examination and associated symptoms, can help identify the cause of each individual's specific headache.

Causes of tension headaches:

While tension headaches are the most frequently occurring type of a headache, their cause is not known. The most likely cause is a contraction of the muscles that cover the skull. When the muscles covering the skull are stressed, they may become inflamed, go into spasm, and cause pain. Common sites include the base of the skull where the trapezius muscles of the neck insert, the temples where muscles that move the jaw are located and the forehead.

There is little research to confirm the exact cause of tension headaches. It is believed that tension headaches occur because of physical stress on the muscles of the head, for example, these stressors can cause the muscles surrounding the skull to clench the teeth and go into spasm. Physical stressors include difficult and prolonged manual labor, or sitting at the desk or computer concentrating for long periods. Emotional stress also might cause tension headaches by causing the muscles surrounding the skull to contract.

Diagnosed tension headaches:

The key to making a diagnosis of any a headache is the history given by the patient. The health care professional will ask questions about a headache to try to help make the diagnosis. Those questions will try to define the quality, quantity, and duration of the pain, as well as any associated symptoms. The person with a tension headache will usually complain of mild-to-moderate pain that is located n both sides of the head. People with tension headaches describe the pain as a non-throbbing tightness, that is not made worse by activity. There usually are no associated symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or light sensitivity.

The physical examination, particularly the neurologic portion of the examination, is important in tension headaches because to make the diagnosis, it should be normal. However, there may be some tenderness of the scalp or neck muscles. if the health care professional finds an abnormality on neurological exam., then the diagnosis of a tension headache should be put on hold until the potential for other causes of headaches has been investigated.

Homeopathic medicine for a headache with their indication is:

Aconite:

A headache which comes suddenly after exposure to cold dry winds. There are anxiety and restlessness. Burning headache, as if the brain is moved by boiling water. Violent stupefying headache with the sensation of fullness. Better in the poen air.

Antimonium Crudum:

Headaches due to overeating, disordered stomach, eating candy, drinking acid wines. Aching worse in vertex, heaviness in the forehead. Worse from bating, especially river bathing.

Belladonna:

Belladonna is the first remedy that comes to mind with a headache. Symptoms are clear and sharply defined. Throbbing is the great keynote, but violent shooting pains in the head, driving the patient almost wild, are scarcely less characteristic. The patient cannot lie down, must sit up, nor can he bear the light, a draft of air, noise or jarring, this last is most characteristic. The location of the ache is mostly in the frontal region or right side, flushed face, dilated pupils accompany.

Cimicifuga:

This is another remedy for the neuralgic form of a headache, and it has some valuable symptoms. It corresponds to the headache of student and those exhausted by fatigue. There is first a sensation as if the top of the head would fly off. There are sharp, lancinating pains in and over the eyes, shotting to the top of the head. The brain seems to move in waves, and there may be the symptoms of a sharp pain extending from the occiput to the frontal region as if a bolt were driven through the head.

Gelsemium:

Is another remedy which has a headache commencing with blindness, and especially is it a remedy for headaches due to eye strain. Onsomodium is another, here we have dull aching extending down the back of neck or over on one side, generally the left, there is a strained stiff sensation in the corresponding eye.

Iris versicolor:

The iris Versicolor headache characteristically commences with a partial blindness or blurring of vision being similar here to gelsemium and Kali- bich and it is especially a remedy for gastric or bilious headaches. This blurring of the sight may be preceded by drowsiness and the head begins to ache a soon as the blurring disappears. It is a useful remedy for Sunday a headache, not, however, in that form which sometimes occurs as a convenient excuse for non-church attendance but that from which occurs in teachers, scholars, professors, etc, in whom a relief of the strain of the preceding six days produces a headache.

Nux-Vomica:

It is quite safe to assert that nux-vomica is more often indicated in a headache than any other remedy, this is presumably due in the main to the cause of a headache calling for Nux-vomica, thus we have a headache from the excessive use of alcohol, the morning"big head", tobacco, coffee, headache from digestive troubles, constipation, and specially autointoxication and hepatic insufficiency. These are all common causes of the Nux-vomica a headache.

Sanguinaria:

Genuine sick headache calls for this drug, and the symptoms, in brief, are these, the pain begins in the morning and in the occiput, It comes up over the head and settles in the right eye. The pain increases in severity until there is vomiting of food and bile, then oftentimes the ache is relieved will be so intense at times that the patient will frantically bore her headache into the pillow for relief.

Spigelia:

This remedy holds the same relation to the left side of the head that Sanguinaria does to the right side. The pains are neuralgic in character, style over the left eye and they are apt to follow the course of the sun, beginning in the morning, reaching the acme at noon and subsiding at sunset. There is often a sensation as if the head were open along the vertex.

Zincum Metallicum:

Occipital pain with weight on vertex, forehead cool with a base of brain hot. Automatic motion of head and hands. A headache from smallest quantity of wine.

It's a disorder that can devastate a man's self-esteem and spoil his relationships. Erectile Dysfunction, or impotence as it is commonly known, refers to a man's inability to obtain or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual activity.  To understand impotence or Erectile Dysfunction, it is necessary to understand how an Erection occurs. There is two spongy chamber in the penis known as corpora cavernosa. These two chambers are balloon-like structures. When there are sexual impulses which travel from the brain, singles from the brain cause blood to fill up in this two balloon-like chambers. This filling up of blood in the penis causes it to become rigid and increase in size.

There are a lot of reasons which can cause impotence or erectile dysfunction. As mentioned earlier, increased blood flow to the penis causes an erection. Therefore anything that hinders this blood flow to the penis can cause erectile dysfunction. This may be due to some problem with the blood vessels or the nerves that regulate this blood flow to the penis.

Some of these problems are of physical or medical nature, while others may be related to stress or psychological factors. In some cases, a combination of both physical and psychological factors may be involved. This happens a lot more insensitive who worry a lot over trivial issues. A slight physical problem may lead to a temporary problem with erection and such an individual might end up aggravating the problem due to excessive worry.

Physical causes of erectile dysfunction or impotence:

This is a large number although a lot less is reported because of various factors. Also, the incidence of this problem increases with age. The percentage of the problem increases three fold as age grows from 40 to 70. There may be various reasons for this and we shall discuss them shortly.

The self-image of a man is often affected as he thinks that he has lost his manhood. This can often cause some problems with one's partner also. It can and has been known to break marriages or relationships between couples.

It has been observed that some psychological issues also can cause this problem, the primary ones being

Stress: If one is under stress of any kind, it can cause erectile dysfunction or impotence or sexual weakness.

Depression: Those who are psychologically depressed for one or the other reason are at a higher risk for impotence or erectile dysfunction.

Performance anxiety: This is anxiety in which a person suffers anxiety whether he will be able to perform the act of coitus or not can itself lead to erectile dysfunction or impotence.

Is treatable?

One often finds it difficult to express this problem and seek timely treatment just out of embarrassment or hesitation. A common misconception is that erectile dysfunction or impotence is not treatable. This is not true, it is as much a treatable problem as any other. This misconception reason why this problem remains untreated.

Symptoms of impotence or Erectile Dysfunction:

The symptoms of erectile dysfunction or impotence are a complete absence of reaction or incomplete erection or inability to sustain the erection for sufficient time to have intercourse. Erections may be too soft though remain for some length of time. In alternative cases, the erections may be strong but very short lived.

A person can be called as having impotence or erectile dysfunction if he is unable to perform up to 75% of the time coitus is attempted. Whether the problems are of physical or psychological origin can be gauged by the fact if the person has nocturnal erections or not. Often men with erectile dysfunction have nocturnal erections when the mind is at rest and there are no psychological pressures. This suggests that there is no physical abnormality.

Hemorrhoids (piles) and Homeopathy

               Hemorrhoids (piles) and Homeopathy

Hemorrhoids, also called piles, are swollen veins in your anus and lower rectum, similar to varicose veins. Hemorrhoids have a number of causes, although often the cause is unknown. They may result from straining during bowel movements or from the increased pressure on these veins during pregnancy. Hemorrhoids may be located inside the rectum (internal hemorrhoids), or they may develop under the skin around the anus(external hemorrhoids).

Hemorrhoids are one of the most common causes of rectal bleeding. They're rarely dangerous and usually clear up in a couple of weeks. But you should see your doctor make sure it's not a more serious condition. He can also remove hemorrhoids that won't go away or are very painful.

Hemorrhoids are very common, nearly three out of four adults will have hemorrhoids from time to time. Sometimes they don't cause symptoms but at other times they cause itching, discomfort, and bleeding. Occasionally, a clot may form in hemorrhoid ( a thrombosed hemorrhoid). These are not dangerous but can be externally painful and sometimes need to be lanced and drained. Fortunately, many effective options are available to treat hemorrhoids. Many people can get relief from symptoms of home treatments and lifestyle changes.

Internal Hemorrhoids:

These lie inside the rectum. Usually, can't see or feel these hemorrhoids, and they rarely cause discomfort. But straining or irritation when passing stool can damage hemorrhoid's surface and cause it to bleed. Occasionally, straining can push internal hemorrhoid through the anal opening. This is known as a protruding or prolapsed hemorrhoid and can cause pain and irritation.

Internal hemorrhoids are far enough inside the rectum that you can't usually see or feel them. They don't generally hurt because you have few pain-sensing nerves there. Bleeding may be the only sign of them.

External Hemorrhoids:

These are under the skin around your anus. When irritated, external hemorrhoids can itch or bleed.

External hemorrhoids are under the skin around the anus, where there are many more pain-sensing nerves, so they tend to hurt as well as bleed.

Thrombosed Hemorrhoids:

Sometimes blood may pool in external hemorrhoids and form a clot (thrombus) that can result in severe pain, swelling, inflammation, and a hard lump near your anus.

Sometimes hemorrhoids prolapse, or get bigger and bulge outside the anal sphincter. Then you may be able to see them as moist bumps that are pinker than the surrounding area and they're more likely to hurt, often when you poop.

Symptoms:

Signs and symptoms of hemorrhoids any include:

- Painless bleeding during bowel movements you might notice small amounts of bright red blood on your toilet tissue or in the toilet.

- Itching or irritation in your anal region.

- Pain or discomfort.
- swelling around your anus.
- A lump near your anus, which may be sensitive or painful(maybe a thrombosed hemorrhoid)
- Hemorrhoid symptoms usually depend on the location.
- Bleeding is the most constant feature.
- Pain in advance cases or when associated with a fissure.
- Itching, burning, and irritation.
- Mucous discharge.
-Anemia in long-lasting cases.

Causes:

The veins around anus tend to stretch under pressure and may bulge or swell. Swollen veins(hemorrhoids) can develop from increased pressure in the lower rectum due to:

- Straining during bowel movements
- Sitting for long periods of time on the toilet
- Chronic diarrhea or constipation.
- Obesity
- Pregnancy
- Anal intercourse
- Low-fiber diet

Hemorrhoids are more likely because the tissues that support the veins in your rectum and anus can weaken and stretch.

Pathophysiology:

Hemorrhoid cushions are a part of normal human anatomy become a pathological disease only when they experience abnormal changes, There are three main cushions present in the normal anal canal. These are located classically in left lateral, right lateral, and right posterior positions. They are composed of neither arteries nor veins, but blood vessels called sinusoids, connective tissue, and smooth muscle. Sinusoids do not have muscle tissue in their walls, as veins do. This set of blood vessels is known as the hemorrhoidal plexus.

Hemorrhoid cushions are important for continence. They contribute to 15% - 20% of anal closure pressure at rest and protect the internal and external anal sphincter muscles during the passage of stool. when a person bears down, then a person down, the intraabdominal pressure grows, and hemorrhoid cushions increase in size helping maintain anal closure. Hemorrhoid symptoms are believed to result when these vascular structures slide downwards or when venous pressure may also be involved in hemorrhoid symptoms. Two types of hemorrhoids occur internally from the superior hemorrhoidal plexus and external from the inferior hemorrhoidal plexus. The dental line divides the two regions.

Gradation of Piles:

- Grade I- Bleeding is present but there is no external mass visible.
- Grade II - Thre is the prolapse of piles after stool. but the mass recedes automatically after defecation.
- Grade III - Haemorrhoids prolapse during stool but they do not reduce by themselves and they have to reduce manually.
- Grade IV - Piles cannot be reduced at all and remains always outside the anal orifice.

Remains always outside the anal orifice. This grade  I and II are expected to have a good result with proper homeopathic treatment, grade III may to some extent respond to homeopathy but grade IV comes extremely advanced pathology does not keep any scope for conservative treatments. Of course in all cases, the patient can expect a reduction in the severity of symptoms with homeopathy.

When to see a doctor:

Bleeding during bowel movements is the most common sign of hemorrhoids. Your doctor can do a physical examination and perform other tests to confirm hemorrhoids and rule out more- serious conditions or diseases. Also, talk to your doctor if you know you have hemorrhoids and they cause pain to bleed frequently or excessively, or don't improve with home remedies.

Don't assume rectal bleeding is due to hemorrhoids, especially if you are over 40 years old. Rectal bleeding can occur with other diseases, including colorectal cancer and anal cancer. If you have to bleed along with a marked change in bowel habits or if your stools change in color or consistency, consult your doctor. These types of stools can single more extensive bleeding elsewhere in your digestive tract.

Complications:

Complications of hemorrhoids are very rare but include:

Anemia:
Rarely, chronic blood loss from hemorrhoids may cause anemia, in which you don't have enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen to your cells.

Strangulated hemorrhoid:
If the blood supply to internal hemorrhoids is cut off, hemorrhoids may be strangulated another cause of extreme pain.

Prevention:

The best way to prevent hemorrhoids is to keep your stools soft, so they pass easily. To prevent hemorrhoids and reduce symptoms of hemorrhoids follow these tips:

 Eat high- fiber foods:
Eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Doing so softens the stool and increases its bulk, which will help you avoid the straining that can cause hemorrhoids. Add fiber to your diet slowly to avoid problems with gas.

Drink plenty of fluids:
Drink six to eight glasses of water and other liquids(not alcohol) each day to help keep stools soft.

Consider fiber supplements:
Most people don't get enough of the recommended amount of fiber- 25 grams a day for women and 38 grams a day for men in their diet. Studies have shown that over the counter fiber supplements such as Metamucil products help keep stools soft and regular. If you use fiber supplements, be sure to drink at least eight glasses of water or other fluids every day. Otherwise, the supplements can cause constipation or make constipation worse.

Don't strain:
Straining and holding your breath when trying to pass a stool creates greater pressure in the veins in the lower rectum.

Go as soon as you feel the urge:
If you wait to pass a bowel movement and the urge goes away, your stool could become dry and be harder to pass.

Exercise:
Stay active to help prevent constipation and to reduce pressure on veins, which can occur with long periods of standing or sitting. Exercise can also help you lose excess weight that may be contributing to your hemorrhoids.

Avoid long periods of sitting:
Sitting too long particularly on the toilet can increase the pressure on the veins in the anus.

Frequently used medicines:

Aesculus Hippocastanum:

Is a frequently indicated remedy in piles. There are intense dryness and heat of rectum, the sensation of knife-like pain as if of small sticks excessive burning in anus.    Osteoarthritis is an inflammation of the joints, involving the breakdown of the cartilage at the ends of bones.

In simplest terms, osteoarthritis is nothing but a failure of the joint pattern. It is certainly a degenerative joint disease, characterized by degeneration of articular cartilage and proliferation of new bone, cartilage and connective tissue at the same time.Often secondary inflammatory changes are observed in the synovium.
Sadly, the incidence of osteoarthritis seems to be on the rise according to global surveys. The age onset of osteoarthritis is reducing drastically over the period of last few years. Now the incidence is slated to start at joints. Older women are peculiarly affected more and certain geological variations are found too.

Pathology of osteoarthritis:

Osteoarthritis is a disease of both articular cartilage and subchondral bone. The disease is characterized by progressive degradation of the components of the extracellular matrix of the articular cartilage associated with secondary inflammation factors and increased none turnover and repair.

Complications:

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that worsens over time. Joint pain and stiffness may become severe enough to make daily tasks difficult. Some people are no longer able to work. When joint pain is this severe, doctors may suggest joint replacement surgery.

- Knee: Tibiofemoral arthritis is usually bilateral and associated with early morning stiffness and pain on weight bearing particularly on stairs. Night pain is a sign of severe disease. In elderly patients, knee effusions and crepitus are common.

Signs and symptoms of Osteoarthritis:

Characteristically the first few joints to be involved are distal and proximal interphalangeal joints, carpometacarpal joints of the thumb.
- Gradual onset of symptoms in most cases, joints of spine, hands, and hips are involved.
- At least initially, only one or a few joints are affected.
- Knee and hand involvement is peculiar.
- Intermittent pain and aching in joints typically are aggravated by movement of that joint and is better by resting it.
- With the advancement of the disease process, limited movement of joints is noticed. Initially, this restriction of movement is attributed to pain and spasm of muscles but later capsular fibrosis, osteophyte formation, and remodeling of bone set in.
- After minor sprains or twists, there are usually effusions into the joints when crepitus may be felt or even heard.
- Associated muscular wasting is noted, because of which there is the loss of muscle control over the joint, resulting in recurrent injury.
- Due to hyperemia of subchondral bone, there is usually nocturnal aching in bones.
- Deformities like Heberden's or Bouchard's node formation, and finally Osteoarthritis deforming may set in.
