Ringworm infection and homeopathy
These are caused by three different types of fungi called Microsporum, epidermophyton, and trichophyton. They can easily penetrate the keratinised structures and hence these are seen to cause diseases of skin, hair, and nail.
Trichophyton causes skin, hair and nails.
Microsporum causes skin and hair infection
Epidermophyton causes skin and nail infection
Source of infection:
a) Zoophilic- animal to man
b) Arthrophilic-mam to man
c) Geophilic- soil to man
Types of ringworm infection:
Tinea corporis: (body ringworm)
The word " Tinea" means moth-eaten. In this condition, circular ring-like lesions are produced which progress to the periphery while the central part is healed. the lesions may be single or multiple and asymmetrically distributed in the body. small vesicles or pustules are seen on the advancing periphery. Lesions are usually seen particularly on the groin and in the feet and perianal skin. itching is severe.
Tinea capitis: (Ringworm of scalp)
Two genera, viz., microsorum and trichophyton are responsible for tinea capitis. the most common organism in Microsporum Canis which is transmitted from Dog or Cat to man. It is common in children. Round or semi-rounded patches develop on the scalp which are covered with greyish scales and may be erythematous. Trichophyton species, e.g, T. tonsurans and T. violaceum invade the hair shaft.
Tinea cruris:(Dhobi's itch or jock itch)
It is caused by T.mentographytes
This is common in adult males. This is contacted from infected clothing or articles. There is intense itching. In the early stage, there are maculopapules. Which spread to the periphery and red patches are formed. The fold of the groin in contact with the scrotum or labiae is commonly affected. Gradually it spreads behind the perineum or anteriorly on the natal cleft. Satellite lesions are commonly seen.
Tinea barbae:
These ar red inflammatory papules, papulovesicle's or pustules surrounding the hair root on the chin, jaw and scalp. oozing and crust formation may occur. The involved hairs are usually shed off. There are two types: Tinea circinate and the Kerion type.
Tinea unguium:
This commonly affects the great toenails but other nails are also affected. Fingers are less commonly affected. The most commonly involved species is Trichophyton rub rum. the fungus gets entry through the free edge of the nail and progresses to the root.
The involved nail becomes rough, friable discolored and there may be an accumulation of keratinised debris under the nail and nail plate is fragmented. Subungual hyperkeratosis also develops. Fungus may be demonstrated in nail section and nail dust by microscopic examination or by culture.
Tinea Pedis: (Athlete's foot, Dermatophytosis)
The commonest organism causing tinea pedis is Trichophyton rub rum. Epidermophyton floccosum and trichophyton mentagrophytes are less common organisms. The sole of the foot or the clefts between toes are affected.
Tinea Manuum: (Tinea of hands)
Palms are affected asymmetrically, dry powdery scaling develops.
PITYRIASIS VERSICOLOR: (Tinea versicolor)
This is caused Malassezia Furfur.
In this condition, small white spots appear on the trunk, neck, upper arms and face. The lesions are velvety, family brown or chamois colored, varying from 4 mm to 5mm in diameter. There is no itching. the lesions are most frequently distributed over trunk.
On scratching fine scales may be separated off from the patches. These scales may show the fungi when examined in liquor potassium. WOOd's light gives a yellowish green fluorescence to the lesion. Fungal culture is not useful.
Sudden flushes of redness over face.
Twitching in left facial muscles, left corner of mouth drawn upward when talking. Ringworm on face: Baeber's itch. Small red pimples, very bright red, and very sharply defined, with minute vesicles upon them, first on lower extremities, then also on upper, most on left side ; they began first on outside of calves and then on inside of forearms, above wrist, and spread from that point, caused very severe itching day and night, but most at night, after going to bed.

Symptoms:-
Symptoms vary depending on where you’re infected. With a skin infection, you may experience the following:
§ red, itchy, scaly, or raised patches
§ patches that develop blisters or begin to ooze
§ patches that may be redder on the outside edges or resemble a ring
§ patches with edges that are defined and raised
If you’re experiencing dermatophytosis in your nails, they may become thicker, discolored, or begin to crack.
If the scalp is affected, bald patches may develop.
